The lake had been fishing well so we were all hopeful for plenty of bites. I drew peg 2 which certainly had a few carp resident so a good draw on the day.
I started by cupping in some meat and corn a little off the far bank at 13m and some pellets and corn to another spot across under the trees.
First put in with meat hook bait resulted in a quick bite and a Gudgeon! Back out to the same spot with corn on the hook and it wasn't long before I caught a carp of 2-3lb.
In the first 30 minutes I had 4 carp so I decided to put a little pot on the pole to keep the feed topped up after each fish but this did not work at all, after around 15 minutes with no more bites out went the big pot with another helping of meat and corn. This seemed to work as I then had 3 carp in quick succession.
7 carp in the first hour was looking good for a big weight but after this it was much slower with just a carp now and then. I tried the other line several times but only had 1 carp and a couple silvers from there.
With 30 minutes to go nothing had happened for a while so I put a big pot of bait in and went over it, after a couple of small indications the float shot under and my biggest carp of the day gave me the run around for several minutes before I managed to squeeze it into the landing net. I managed one more smaller example before the end of the match.
Despite the windy weather there had been some decent weights of silvers with a few carp mixed in around the lake, my catch went 39lb 15oz which was just good enough to take first place with 36lb in second.
