VAC League Match 7-Entire Farm-September 1st

6/9/2013

I did attend league matches 5 and 6 but have very little to report as I really struggled to catch anything at all on both matches.

Here are links to the club reports in case you are interested.
League Match 5 - Frogmore
League Match 6 - The Warren

Entire Farm is a big weight carp race type venue, so at least I could expect to get my string pulled this time.

When we fish our club match here, we fish for 2.5 hours starting at 9.30 then have a weigh-in and after that's done and everyone is ready to start again we fish until 3.30 so another 2.5 hours or so.

I started by fishing at 11m shallow with 6mm pellets whilst feeding the 4m spot to my right with meat, I caught a few carp shallow in the first hour but wasn't getting any of the bigger ones so went to the meat line.

There were a lot of good sized rudd taking my meat bait in between spells of catching carp so I upped the feed to a good handful each put in. At the half way weigh-in I had 85lb which wasn't great but not a terrible start. At this stage the two leading anglers had 201lb and 199lb.

The second half got under way, I fed a large pot full of meat and to my left I fed a large pot full of pellets.
I was still going to concentrate on the meat line but the pellets gave me another area to try if things didn't go to plan.

Whilst fishing the meat line, I continued to feed by hand and also loose-fed pellets to the left.
It took a few minutes to get a bite but it was a decent size fish at around 8lb, The next hour and a half was not hectic, there were a few quieter spells during which I would try the pellet fed area and this would usually get a fish or two before switching back to the meat line.

The last hour was better. I was getting a bite much quicker and apart from a couple of foul hookers, I was getting a fish each put in.

3.30pm, the work-out was over!
I knew Nick and Josh would be first and second, Conner (a couple pegs to my left) was 60lb ahead of me in the first half and I knew he had caught well again so I was unlikely to have caught up with him, so I was hoping for 4th.

My final total was 306lb, just 7lb short of my biggest match weight which was taken at the same match last year.
This turned out to put me in 5th position by about 17lb to fourth.
Nick won with an amazing 505lb and Josh was 2nd with 465lb.

Must try harder in the first half!

Here is the club report.. Match 7 - Entire Farm

Nick's swim about an hour and a half after the match, Josh was feeding a few pellets regular.
