MFS Match-Bury Hill Fisheries-April 19th 2015

16/5/2015

I got on this match at the last minute and having booked on to the next one at the same lake in May I was looking forward to a bit of Bream fishing for a change. Old Bury Hill Fisheries is a very nice place which I have not visited for many years. The match today was on the long bank and a favourable draw is usually one from where you can cast towards the island. I drew towards the far end which is much shallower than the clubhouse end. After making my way to my peg things did not start well, one of the legs on my topkit roost tripod snapped off in my hand!

I set up a couple of pole rigs for 13m but it was quite windy, also an 11ft feeder rod was set up and not long before the start a bream rolled about 2/3 of the way across so I clipped up with a bomb at that distance.

The all in was called and that's when the second thing went wrong, after feeding the pole line, the very first cast with a loaded cage feeder resulted in the carrier section of the rod breaking clean in half so out came one of my 10ft Garbolino rods.

It was slow going with just occasional bream on the feeder using hair rigged corn, then the bites stopped completely, after 30 minutes with no signs at all and it had also gone quiet for the anglers either side of me, I tried the pole, nothing showing on the pole line so back out on the feeder, this time with a big expander on the hair. This bought me a few quick bites before it went dead again. On the pole again but could not buy a bite.

I ended up with 14 bream and skimmers for 27lb which was 4th in the section. The match was won by Josh on one of the island pegs fishing the tea bag to the island with 59lb.

Not a good result but a nice day out in nice surroundings.
