The level is quite low and the colour had dropped out over the previous week or so which meant it would likely be tough going.
We had 14 hardy souls booked in and this match was a walk off, I drew a low number so was able to pick my swim on the deeper spinney section and not have to walk very far along the river.
I had fished the same spot a couple times before and done OK, mainly on the maggot feeder so that was one line of attack and I also set up to fish at 6m.
To start the match I threw 5 balls of groundbait with casters and hemp mixed in on the 6m line and then started fishing the feeder. It turned out even tougher than I expected with just occasional bites producing a couple of roach and an 8oz chub in the first 2 hours.
I tried the 6m line now and then after the first hour but nothing happened there.
Half way through the match I caught 2 perch in 2 puts on at 6m but then could not get another bite, I decided to use a bait-dropper to put in some chopped worm to the right side of the 6m line and tried a worm on the hook. This got be a couple of small perch but no more bites.
I kept trying both the feeder and the pole over the second half of the match but only caught one roach and a couple of tiny chublets in this time and they were all on the feeder.
So, an enjoyable day out but not a good result for me, my 2lb 2oz not getting me far off the bottom of the results list.
