I set up a stick float rod and a bomb/feeder rod but I really wanted to try to catch some on the float so I started feeding pellets across in front of the reed line. After trotting this line for around an hour, I hooked a barbel but it managed to break the hooklength in some weed. I continued to try this line whilst also feeding the near side where there was a bit more depth.
A couple of times I saw good size barbel swimming upstream through the peg, I threw just 3 or 4 small pellets a bout 2 metres upstream of them and to my surprise as the pellets got close to the barbel they would spook away. This observation and the fact that I had failed to catch after a few hours led me to try a static bait. Out went the bomb with a hair rigged pellet down on the near line and after no more than 10 minutes BANG! over went the tip and I was attached to something of a decent size.
After a fairly short scrap, in the net was a nice barbel. After resting the fish in the landing net for a few minutes, I quickly weighed it and took couple photos before holding in the water until it kicked it's tail and swam off strongly.
After about an hour, I had the first Barbel's Twin as the first was 6lb 4oz and the second 6lb 3oz.
