Into the draw bag and out comes peg 4, a short walk at least!
Peg 4 has a one of the floating islands and the end of a small proper island to fish to so a few options.
I plumbed up to the floating island and towards the island, at 6m left and right and a margin swim.
At the all in I fed 2 small balls of groundbait and micros at 6m to the right and a nugget of chopped worm in a little groundbait to the left.
Starting to the floating island at 14.5m on the deck with corn on the hook, I tapped in a few 4mm pellets and caught a couple of small carp in the first 25 minutes by which time it was clear there were a lot of small fish very shallow as they seemed to be going for my float after feeding so this prompted me to try in the same spot with a shallow rig.
Pinging 4mm pellets, a procession of small F1s came to the net on the shallow rig for the next 3 hours with a decent carp now and then too. There were a few slow periods but usually this would be followed by catching a carp then after feeding a few times the F1s would be back.
Half way through the match I tried the 6m lines with 2 dead red maggots on the hook to the right and worm section to the left but did not have a bite on either.
With around an hour to go things slowed right down so I tried the margin swim but no signs there so tied the 6m lines again, still nothing so just went back to the shallow rig and caught what I could until the end of the match.
I thought I might have around 20lb of F1s and maybe 25lb or so of carp so was pleasantly surprised to weigh in 25-13 of F1s and 37-11 of carp so 63lb 8oz in total which was enough to win the match.
