Road Lake is a decent sized rectangular lake with a large island in the middle giving a width all round of approximately 20m or so. I set up a bomb rod for across to the island and an 11m pole line.
At the start I fed the pole line with 6 balls of Sonu F1 dark groundbait with a little chopped worm and a handful of pinkies mixed in. Casting the bomb fairly close to the island with popped up bread I picked up a few carp in the first hour and a half before switching to the pole.
Having left the pole line to settle certainly worked as there were lots of small skimmers and a few roach there with a bite almost every put in for a couple hours, then it started to slow right down so I fed a ball of groundbait and went back on the bomb for a while.
No indications on the bomb this time so back on the pole and there were bites to be had but nowhere near how it had been earlier, I had been feeding maggots at around 4m out since topping up the 11m line so I tried this in the last 45 minutes and picked up a few plumper roach and skimmers.
I caught up with the scales as they came round to my side of the lake and top weight from the other side was a nice 19lb 1oz net of silvers for Brian. Kev on the end peg on our side had a great day catching carp by a margin tree and his nets went 78lb so clear winner of the match then there was Alan a couple pegs from me. I knew Alan had a couple small carp more than me so I presumed he would be a little ahead of me on weight.
Alan weighed in 18lb 9oz which was a bit less than I expected, I now thought it could be very close and my fish went 22lb 14oz so another second in match which was the best I could have done.
